Guitar 3D

I've been learning how to play the guitar for a few now days. As customary I had to render out a 3D image of one (not the exact guitar I'm learning on) I downloaded the basic structure of a guitar form some site a few days back (I forgot the link from where). Anyways it was a simple low poly model so I had made a lot of changes to the same. Refined the whole thing. Did the texturing, lighting and camera setup. After that rendered the whole thing out (took about 20 minutes for each image as 4K). The DOF was added later in Photoshop as rendering it out was too tedious.

Quadrocopter - Part 6 - Bringing Balance to the Force

Its been about 2 weeks since i posted anything.So here are a few updates.The quadrocopter design is finally complete(well sort of) and so is the flight computer. The sensors (Wii Motion+  and Nunchuck) are here. They seem to be working. The ATMEGA328 (Arduino based) which is the main component of the flight computer also arrived about a week ago and worked flawlessly. This is all pretty cool but the main news is that I've finally ditched the name CPUV because i realized it sucked and now im going to name (Warning : Star Wars reference coming up) it "The Force". The flight computer is called Luke as it shall bring balance to the Force. Any more Star Wars references are welcome. Ok now that my moment of insanity is over , here are the designs: Right now I'm building the pyramid (reminds me of my very first blog post ) on top of the quadrocopter.I might try to change the ring i used for the base to something smaller when i actually start building the land...

Aston Martin DB9 - 3Ds max 2011

I recently started using 3Ds max 2011 after having used the 2009 version for almost 2 years. The new version has quite a few improvements and i was really impressed with new material editor. It is node based which makes it very easy to operate and use. I also experimented with C.A.T. (Character Animation Tools) for 3Ds Max and it is an absolutely amazing piece of software making character rigging extremely simple to do. I will experiment around with it a bit more before putting up a tutorial on it. Ferrari F430 with HDRI / How much of rendering Ogre-Rig take ?

Just to clarify "Ogre-Rig" is not some wired space age monster that lives in the jungle and renders 3D images for fun it is just a normal computer that has been named so as it belongs to a friend Ogre (Mudit Gupta) . Moving on. Here i setup a scene using an earlier made model of a  Ferrari F430 . But this time instead of using a daylight system in 3Ds max i decided to use HDRI with Final Gather to light up the scene.I took me a bit of time to get the settings right and the shadow generation part was really annoying but i finally did it (Will post a tutorial soon explaining how to make your own HDRI image lighting with shadows and what exactly is HDRI ). Note: I downloaded the HDRI images from www.openfootage.net . My laptop could not handle the number of polygons in the scene with all the grass(Hair Modifier) with motion blur at the helicopter's rotor blades and kept on crashing so i made it in 3 different parts and joined together in Photoshop....Total rendering time 70 mins

Character Animation

Character animation done in 3Ds max. Model of a soldier downloaded form the web. Rigged using biped and Physique Modifier.Applied some .bip (motion capture) files to it. Then and rendered it out in using mental ray with daylight system for shadows and lighting.

I set up this scene of a few virus like things floating in 3Ds max, put on some textures on them and added some depth of field effects(9 passes) and rendered it out.
