Hobbiton Style Circular Door

Image
Over the last year I have been working on the renovation/remodeling of my hotel in Nainital. Now we had a 1600 sq ft. area that was to be converted into a small restaurant for the hotel guests. Being a huge fan of LOTR I decided I wanted the entrance to the restaurant to look like a the door to Bilbo's house obviously with our own twist. Here are some pics of the build. The door is a two panel design completely circular and 7 feet tall. Its 1.4" thick and each wood panel weight in just over 50 kgs. Wood: Sagwan. The hinges were made from 0.25" thick mild steel and cut using hacksaws and files We still have some work left for the interiors and the tables and chairs and i post those as soon as they are done. PS: I'm really sorry for having used imperial units in this blog post but I used these units in my original design notes so thought that is what I should write about. All the other p...

Quadrotor 2.0

Image
Long story short, I crashed my previous quad (sadly i did not get any footage of that) and in moving from Bangalore to Nainital i damaged a few of the components (2 ESC's and a Motor) so I decided that instead of trying to repair the old quad i would just go ahead and build a new one with better components. I will use the remaining components to build an RC boat that i plan to use for some other projects for MistriLabs . I wanted to design my own frame and even purchased a Jigsaw so that I could make something more complicated that Quad 1.0. I went ahead an made some 3D mock-ups (will post the renders soon) of my idea(s) but alas I don't have the time to actually make such a complicated frame right now being quite busy with the work for my start-up (Quad v3.0 hopefully). Anyway I order the components and assembled them for QUAD v2.0 (name suggestions welcome). The quad is in the "X" configuration with a yellow ball to indicate the front. Component List: Fl...

Quadrocopter - Part 10 - I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Image
It is possible i might be overdoing it with the Star Wars references. If you find a better name for the next post (which will probably be the first flight) let me know. I worked the whole of last Sunday and finally got the model now ready. So here it is. This time the whole model weighs only 1396 grams. A 19% improvement on the old model.  The motor (EMAX CF2822) along with the propeller (8"x4")  and the bullet connectors (3.5 mm)  The Quad Control Board -  http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=19534  Luke !!! Battery - Tied down with Velcro.  Pictures by Rahul Krishna Upadhayaya. Link to more posts on the  Quadrocopter.

Quadrocopter - Part 9 - A New Hope

Image
There have not been any updates from my side on the quadrocopter for the past 6 months. This is partly because i was working on other stuff but mainly because i got lazy (really really lazy). So one fine day about 2 weeks ago i decided that i have to finish this project. I ordered a quadrocopter control board as i was getting one at a very reasonable price (details later) and i did not have the time to build one for myself (as earlier planned - i might do this sometime later). I did make some changes to the design changes.  Firstly this time i went for an entirely wood construction instead of the aluminium and acrylic combination(what the hell was i thinking??). There are a few reasons for this. It is easier to work with than aluminium. Wood reduces the vibrations of the motors. Wood is cheaper (was able to get material for building 4 quadrocopter for 280 bucks !!!!) and most importantly it available near my house unlike aluminum rods (laziness FTW)....
